The BS4 Wagon shown in Switzerland this year was powered by 1.8-litre, 170hp engine, driving the front wheels through a six-speed gearbox. A two-litre version was also available – both powerplants were developed with FEV. Styling was by Italian carosseria Pininfarina.

The automaker plans to sell the new, self-designed wagon (often called an estate car here in the UK) in Europe after earlier launching BS4 and BS6 sedans, unidentified company executives told Reuters.

The only Chinese automaker to break into the European market has sold about 4,000 BS4 and BS6 saloons since 2007. As well as the new wagon, it has a small BS2 hatchback in the works.

“We are currently going through regulatory procedures in Europe trying to get our BS4 Wagon into the market,” a Brilliance export unit executive said.

Another senior executive confirmed the plan and said Brilliance hoped to meet all regulatory requirements by the end of the year.
