Bosch has announced an expansion of its activities in China by extending two facilities. It will invest a total of €160m.

In Changsha, Bosch will be spending roughly €60m between now and 2008, in order to create new facilities for the development and manufacture of products such as starters and alternators. Following the extension work, the site will have doubled in size to more than 210,000 square metres.
Over the same period, some €100m will be invested in the production of electronic control units for airbags, ABS, and ESP in Suzhou.
Around 1,300 new jobs will be created at both plants.
Bosch intends to invest some €620m in China. Most of this sum has been earmarked for the establishment and expansion of development and manufacturing facilities for automotive original equipment. In 2004, the company opened a new “engineering centre” in Suzhou, covering an area of 200,000 square metres, at an investment of €50m.
In a statement Bosch said it sees huge opportunities for advanced diesel systems and safety components such as ABS and ESP.
Bosch currently has 14 wholly-owned subsidiaries in China and six joint ventures. It manufactures at 20 sites and recorded sales of around €1bn in 2005.
