It is part of a commitment by the company to invest €500 million in China over the next three years. This commitment will bring the total amount invested there to over €1 billion.
The new technology centre will employ around 220 employees and occupy an area of some 200,000 sq metres of space concentrating in the field of automotive electronics and brake systems. In the longer term the new facility will employ around 300.
“In addition to the demand for cleaner and more economical cars, China will in future feel the need for more safety,” said board member Rudolf Colm. “This is why we are convinced of the potential for electronic stability systems.” Currently the installation rate in China is about 3% but the company anticipates that this will triple by 2008.
Bosch has offered ESP systems in China for the last three years and has made antilock braking systems at its plant in Suzhou since the end of 2003. Production of ESP systems is expected to commence there this year.
