Beijing Public Transport Holdings Ltd. will spend CNY2.8bn (US$350m) during 2006 to purchase 3,485 ‘environmentally-friendly’ buses, reported China Daily Information Company.

This follows an investment of CNY3.0bn during 2005.
1,000 of the buses will be powered by natural gas, 200 will be Euro 4 standard diesel, 2,185 Euro 3 standard diesel and 100 electric hybrid.
The total number of buses in Beijing is expected to reach 20,427 by the end of this year, in which 13,252 will be environmentally-friendly.
