The 10m figure was announced by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the official Xinhua news agency said.
China had in September outpaced the United States to become the world’s largest automobile market, according to earlier association data.
September sales of Chinese automobiles on the mainland hit the highest level on record for a single month, surging 77.9% year on year to over 1.3m units.
US sales, in contrast, totaled about 746,000 last month.
The Chinese association has said it expects total automobile sales to hit the 10m unit mark later this month and tally over 12m for the full year.
