Chinese retail car sales last month jumped 59.3% year on year to 977,300 units, helped largely by Beijing subsidies for fuel-efficient models.
Total vehicle sales in August – including cars, buses and trucks – rose 55.7% to 1.22m units, the China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATRC) told Reuters. Year to date total vehicle sales were up 31.5% to 9,456,900.
Toyota sales by various JVs rose 16% to 77,000, Honda was up 5.9% to 48,399, Hyundai-Kia group volume rose 20.5% to 85,827, General Motors was up 19.2% to 181,625 and Ford up 24% to 44,047.
