Car sales in China rose 10.8% year-on-year to 604,900 units in April, according to the country’s official industry association.
All vehicle sales, including cars, buses and trucks, rose 14.1% to 922,600 units in April, according to official data provided by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
In the first four months of the year, car sales reached 2.46m units ( including 1.81m sedans, 75,500 minivans and 141,300 sport-utility vehicles), 17.8% ahead of the same period last year. All vehicle sales were 19.4% higher at 3.5m units.
Chinese auto sales have maintained double-digit growth since the beginning of the year, in contrast to weakening sales in much of the world as a result of the unfolding global credit crisis and soaring energy prices.
CAAM said that ‘domestic’ auto producers sold 463,100 sedans in the first four months – a 25.5% share of total sedan sales.
