During the opening of its Changshu (China) manufacturing facility, driveline specialist American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) said it had been awarded a new contract by Chery Automobile to produce rear drive modules for a 2009 model year crossover vehicle.
The RDM was developed for a front-wheel-drive based crossover vehicle with an all-wheel-drive option. It includes an AAM PowerLite aluminium rear axle. The RDM is said to offer greater torque capacity than similar-sized competitor products, which allows for weight, packaging, and durability improvements that maximise performance and improve fuel economy.

“We are extremely pleased to announce this new business with a new Asian customer, Chery,” said AAM co-founder, chairman & CEO Richard Dauch.
“Chery is one of the leading vehicle producers in China and we are honoured to have been chosen to be a part of its venture into the crossover vehicle arena.
“The market shift towards all-wheel drive passenger cars and crossover vehicles plays right to AAM’s strength in developing highly engineered, advanced technology driveline products and systems for the global marketplace.”
