Chevrolet China said it would launch a new compact midsize family sedan called the Cavalier at the Chengdu Auto Show next month.
The Cavalier nameplate has been used previously by Vauxhall in the UK and Chevrolet in North America but this is the brand’s first use of the Cavalier name in China. The new car will complement the recently launched redesigned Cruze, as Chevrolet widens its range.

“The completely new compact sedan will appeal to customers with young families in large and small cities across the country. It will compete in a crucially important segment, the second largest in the passenger vehicle market,” GM China said in a statement.
A class-leading fuel economy of 5.4 litres/100km is expected from the 1.5-litre DVVT I4 petrol engine. Six-speed automatic DSS intelligent transmission or five-speed manual transmissions will be offered.
The interior has the brand’s dual-cockpit styling and includes a PM2.5 fine particulate matter air filter.
The centre console has a seven-inch HD touchscreen and Chevrolet’s new-generation MyLink infotainment system will be available. It supports search engine Baidu’s Carlife.

By GlobalDataCar News China last month said the Cavalier would not be completely new as it was “basically the previous generation Chevrolet Cruze sedan in a new skin”. That model, renamed Cruze Classic, is currently still on sale priced from CNY90,000 to CNY110,000 with a 109hp 1.5-litre I4 mated to a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic.
The Cavalier “is going to be very cheap, with price expected to start around CNY80,000, the report said, adding it would be made by the Shanghai-GM joint venture.
