Chery Automobile announced it has begun production of the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Jaecoo J7 SUV in Malaysia, with deliveries scheduled to begin at the end of February.
The Chinese automaker’s local subsidiary, Chery Auto Malaysia Sdn Bhd, launched production of the 1.6L internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the J7 in June of last year – at its Chery Corporate Malaysia Factory in Shah Alam.
Jaecoo Malaysia vice president Emily Lek told reporters: “As Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem continues to develop, Jaecoo is happy to offer greater peace of mind to consumers considering the transition to hybrid energy mobility.”
Jaecoo Malaysia claims the J7 PHEV has a “class-leading” pure electric range of 106 km and a petrol consumption of just under 6 litres per 100 km when running on depleted power. The company pointed out that J7 PHEV, in a recent long-distance test drive, covered more than 1,200 km on a full tank of petrol and full battery charge.
