The global recall of 7.4m Toyota vehicles to check the master power window switch has also affected a Pontiac variant produced and sold in North America.
Transport Canada has announced a recall of 16,724 units of the 2009 Pontiac Vibe which was the now defunct General Motors division’s variant of the Toyota Matrix, a small MPV derivative of the Corolla similar to the European Verso.

In the US, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has included the 2009 Vibe in a recall of 2.5m Toyota vehicles.
As with affected Toyotas, due to improperly applied grease, the driver’s side power window master switch could stick or become inoperative. If attempts are made to lubricate the switch, the switch assembly could overheat and melt. A melting switch may produce smoke and potentially lead to a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Dealers will inspect the driver’s power window master switch and apply a specialised grease that inhibits heat build-up, or replace the power window master switch circuit board, as necessary.
