October Canadian car sales were the best for a month so far this year in October and were down 1% year on year to 121,500 units, according to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants data.

General Motors topped the charts, followed by Toyota and Ford.
“I cannot recall ever seeing a sales race for the top position this close in any particular month in my entire 40 year career of studying this industry,” Dennis DesRosiers, president of DesRosiers Automotive Consultants, told Reuters.
GM sales were down 33.2% year on year to 18,959 vehicles with car sales off 44.6% to 7,056 and truck sales down 23.9% to 11,903.
Toyota Canada sales rose 18.7% to 18,813 vehicles, for the best October on record. The Toyota division posted a 19.4% gain and Lexus was up 11.9%.
Ford Canada sales rose for the fifth consecutive month at 20.1% to 18,201 vehicles. Car sales rose 8.4%, while trucks were up 23.6%.
Chrysler said its sales dropped 9.3% to 14,263 vehicles with car sales down 7.9% to 3,003 and truck volume off 9.7% to 11,260.
Sales at Honda Canada were flat at 11,303 vehicles. Honda sales fell 10% while Acura was up 80% year on year.
