According to Reuters, General Motors of Canada said its vehicle sales for February fell 23% to 24,938 from 32,366 in the same month last year. Car sales plunged 32.4% to 10,810, while truck sales sank 13.7% to 14,128.
Ford Canada reportedly said total vehicle sales rose 2.2% to 15,210, as a 4.3% decline in truck sales was offset by a 23% jump in car sales – the automaker sold 4,341 cars and 10,869 trucks in the month and noted that sales of its hybrid-powered Ford Escape model jumped 88% amid rising demand for alternative-fuel vehicles.
DaimlerChrysler Canada told Reuters it sold 15,544 vehicle in February, a 1.9% decline over the same month last year. Sales of cars surged 31.5% to 4,454 units, while truck sales dropped 10.9% to 11,090.
Toyota Canada reportedly said strong demand for its Corolla, redesigned RAV4 and Toyota trucks helped contribute to what it described as its most successful February ever.
The automaker told Reuters sales increased 8.7% to 10,109 vehicles. The Toyota division had an 8.7% boost in sales to 9,509, while the luxury Lexus division saw sales climb 21% to 600. Toyota also enjoyed a 44% jump in truck sales, to 2,939 units.
Honda Canada said it moved 8,246 vehicles off its lots in February, which marks a 1% decrease from a year earlier. Its Acura division reported sales of 1,095 units, down 12%, while sales of Honda vehicles rose 1%, to 7,151, according to Reuters.
