GM Canada today announced a C$13m (US$9.9m) investment in its St. Catharines Powertrain facility to enable the plant to produce more variants of the 3.6L V6 engine currently being manufactured there.

Future St. Catharines production volumes will be determined through market demand and ongoing discussions with the Unifor labour body.

“This new investment in our St. Catharines Powertrain facility will provide us with more options and capability for the future,” said GM Canada president and managing director, Stephen Carlisle.

“It’s [an] example of how GM is living up to its commitments and building capability for the future in Canada.”

The GM St. Catharines Powertrain plant is one of North America’s largest engine and transmission plants.

It produces a range of V6 and V8 engines as well as transmissions for a wide range of GM products.
