GM claims that, unlike typical single mode systems already available, its patented, next generation two-mode hybrid system optimises fuel efficiency in both city and highway driving, and this makes it easily adaptable for use in a broad range of vehicles.

GM previously announced that the two-mode hybrid system will be available in the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon hybrids being launched this year, and expected to deliver up to 25% improved fuel consumption, and in 2008 the next generation Saturn Vue two-mode hybrid will offer estimated fuel consumption savings of up to 45%.
