Ford plans to build hybrid vehicles in Oakville, Ontario, from 2010 in a plant currently undergoing a US$1bn upgrade.

The factory will start producing the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers from the fourth quarter of 2007 and hybrid versions will be introduced by 2010.
Ford will also introduce hybrid versions of the Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego, and the Canadian-made Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, bringing the number of high-volume models available as full hybrids to nine.
Ford already markets hybrid versions of the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner which will be joined by the Mazda Tribute in 2007 and the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan in 2008.
Ford plans sell 250,000 hybrids a year globally by 2010.
