February saw a continuation of the long cold winter seen in most of Canada and also a continuation of the “steady as she goes” nature of the total automotive market, according to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.
Vehicle sales rose 2.4% year on year to 105,693 units for the third best February since 2007.

Chrysler sales rose 9.5% to 18,350 units, ahead of second placed Ford, down 0.4% to 16,227.
Light trucks overall continued to grow their sales with a 9.7% increase in February to 64,579.
Passenger cars, on the other hand, saw a 7.3% decline in unit sales to 41,114 during the month.
Import brands as a group grew sales at 3.5% to 58,135 with Subaru (up 26.5% to 2,390), Nissan (up 22% to 6,009) and Mitsubishi (up 21.6% to 1,672) continuing an upwards trend started last year.
Large volume import brand players saw mixed results with Honda up 13.9% to 7,825, Hyundai dropping 7.4% to 8,105, and Toyota holding steady – selling precisely 4 more units (9,962) than in February 2013.
The luxury side of the market was generally positive, paced once more by Jaguar Land Rover (Jaguar up 29.5% to 101; Land Rover 31.3% to 545).
