DaimlerChrysler Canada Inc. today reported the highest August vehicle sales in the company’s 75-year history.

The company’s dealers across Canada sold an all-time record 22,414 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles in August — an increase of 7.1 per cent over the 20,931 vehicles sold in the same month last year and 5.8 per cent higher than the previous August record of 21,191 vehicles sold in August, 1998. DaimlerChrysler Canada’s deliveries of 183,708 cars and trucks in the first eight months of this year were 4.1 per cent higher than the 176,403 vehicles sold in the January-through-August period of 1999.

“DaimlerChrysler’s record August sales reflected higher sales of both passenger cars and trucks”, R. M.(Larry) Latta, Vice President – Sales and Marketing said. “Our flagship Chrysler brand registered a 43.2 per cent increase for the month, with a 57.5 per cent gain for Neon and 108.8 per cent for the Chrysler 300M, and deliveries of 1,370 of our super-hot Chrysler PT Cruisers. Year-to-date sales of 61,931 Chrysler brand vehicles were 41.2 per cent higher than the 43,855 sold in the January-through-August period last year.

Dodge truck sales also continued to grow with a 25.2 per cent increase in sales of the midsize Dodge Dakota pickup, Dodge Ram pickup deliveries up 3.9 per cent, while the Dodge Durango sport utility posted a solid 33.6 gain.

DaimlerChrysler’s combined August deliveries of 15,451 Dodge trucks, Jeep sport utility vehicles, Chrysler Town & Country minivans, and Chrysler PT Cruisers were 7.1 per cent higher than the 14,430 sold in the same month of 1999. Year-to-date sales of 128,132 Dodge trucks and Jeep vehicles were 5.8 per cent higher than the 121,067 sold in the first eight months of 1999.
