According to Reuters, the April figures built on March’s sturdy results, which had offered a glimmer of hope that the dreary figures from previous months may be fading as customers take advantage of a slew of new products in the traditionally better spring sales period.
General Motors of Canada reportedly said total monthly sales rose 14.3% to 46,908 vehicles, with healthy gains in both car sales, up 11.2%, and truck sales, ahead 17.7%.
Ford of Canada snapped its losing trend to post higher monthly sales, reporting a 7.4% rise in total sales to 20,921. Truck sales were up 13.4% but car sales were down 6.8% from the same period last year, the report added.
The news agency said DaimlerChrysler Canada reported a 3.9% increase in total monthly sales to 21,678 vehicles as a 10.9% rise in truck sales offset a 13.9% skid in car sales.
Toyota Canada, which has been on a record-setting pace, said April sales inched up 1.1% to 15,808 vehicles. Car sales notched an 0.5% gain in the month while truck sales were up 3.1%, Reuters added.
