Chinese automaker BYD intends to double its European sales network by the end of next year as part of a wider regional expansion, Reuters reported, citing comments from a senior executive.

Speaking at an event in Frankfurt, BYD’s regional managing director for Europe Maria Grazia Davino said: “By the end of 2025, we will be present with 1,000 points of sale in Europe, and next year we’re going to double (that).”

“In line with successful competitors, we need to have proximity and win proximity to the European customers,” Reuters quoted Davino as saying,

Davino oversees operations in German-speaking markets, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia.

Davino said BYD is pursuing a “long-term localisation strategy” in Europe, where it is already active in 29 markets.

She highlighted the company’s forthcoming factory in Hungary, its first manufacturing site in the region.

The company is also planning a second plant in Turkey and is considering a third European facility, with Spain seen as a leading option.

The automaker has previously examined locations including Germany, but that option has been debated internally owing to higher labour and energy costs.

The company intends to manufacture all cars destined for the European market locally within three years.

BYD’s sales in Europe rose more than threefold to 80,807 vehicles in the first nine months of 2025 compared with the same period a year earlier, following the introduction of plug-in hybrids alongside battery-electric models.

“Localising in a mature region like Europe is a very important project. It requires knowledge, dedication, investments, and resources at all levels,” Davino added.

Last month, BYD announced its latest model in Europe with ‘Super Hybrid DM technology’ – the ATTO 2 DM-i. It said the compact SUV plug-in hybrid (PHEV) blends an EV driving experience with up to 1,020km of combined range.

BYD also said the car can travel for up to 90km on electric power alone, a feat it says is ‘unrivalled in its class’.
