BYD has launched its third electric vehicle, the flagship Seal, in Japan.

The sedan would be its most expensive model so far in the country where domestic brands have been previously favoured, Reuters reported.

Only the automaker’s battery-powered cars have been launched in Japan though vehicles with other powertrain technology such as PHEVs are popular in China.

Suggested retail pricing of the RWD Seal would be JPY5.28m (US$33,112).

BYD launched the Atto 3 and Dolphin EVs in Japan last year, selling about 2,500 since opening its first Japanese dealership in Yokohama in February 2023, according to Reuters.

It planned to add at least one new model to its Japanese line each year.
