BYD said it had received its first order from Norwegian public transport provider Unibuss.
The Chinese electric bus maker said 23 12 metre eBuses were scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2020 for operation on routes in and around the Norwegian capital, Oslo.

“This latest order reaffirms BYD’s leading position in the Nordic countries with the pure-electric brand performing well with more than 200 eBus orders received to date in the region,” BYD said.
The order followed another recent deal for 55 eBuses in Norway for the government owned national rail and bus company, Vy.
That order was for Class II 13 metre, 12 metre and 18 metre articulated models and was one of the largest single deals for BYD from a European public transport authority.
“As a leading operator of electric buses in Norway, it is important for Unibuss to follow the global market development. BYD delivered the most attractive and cost effective offer for electric buses for this tender overall,” said CEO Oystein Svendsen.
Meanwhile, BYD and Toyota said they would establish a joint company to research and develop battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
The pair said the new R&D company, which would work on designing and developing BEVs (including platform) and its related parts, would be established in China in 2020, with BYD and Toyota to each hold half of capital needed.
They would staff the new company by transferring engineers and the jobs currently involved in related R&D from their respective companies.
