SsangYong has given its Rexton SUV a revised model name, a facelift and an all-new 2.0-litre engine. The updated model made its global debut at the Busan motor show on 24 May.

As well as the styling refresh (new grille, bumpers and daytime running lights) the Rexton W features a new engine, which SsangYong calls ‘e-XDi200’. This four-cylinder turbodiesel is said to produce 154bhp, with a quoted torque figure of 360Nm. A biturbo version to come will reportedly have respective outputs of 200bhp and 500Nm.

The Rexton has been made at SsangYong’s main Pyongtaek plant since 2001 with assembly in Russia from SKD kits by UAZ since 2005. Mahindra & Mahindra, SsangYong’s owner, said in December 2010 that it would add assembly of the Rexton (and Korando) at its Chakan plant. This is due to take place during the second half of 2012.

The successor model, which is codenamed D200, is expected to be launched in 2014 or 2015.
