Renault de Brasil has produced 100,000 engines so far this year at its Mecânica Mercosul factory in São José dos Pinhais, Paraná state, and the company expects to raise output to 209,000 units in 2002 and to its full capacity of 400,000 by 2004, according to a report in Gazeta Mercantil.

The factory currently produces 450 engines per day, of which 27% are sent to Peugeot´s factory in Porto Real, Rio de Janeiro state, for the Peugeot 206 model.

A further 31% are exported for the Renault Twingo (produced in Uruguay) and the Mégane and Kangoo (in Argentina). The remaining engines equip the Scénic, Clio and Clio Sedan models, manufactured in Renault´s Ayrton Senna factory, next door to Mecânica Mercosul.
