The country’s automobile dealers’ association, Fenabrave, said the figure includedbuses and trucks, but not motorcycles, but was 12.4% down on the same month last year due to the end of government-sponsored tax breaks on new vehicles.

Fenabrave also reduced its estimate for car sales, including motorcycles, this year to 5.12m units from 5.15m units previously, still an increase of 7.8% over the record 4.75m units sold last year.

Fiat topped the sales chart in June with 60,167 sales, followed by Volkswagen, 51,965 and General Motors, 49,049. Ford sold 24,441 units.

In the year to the end of June, sales of vehicles in Brazil have risen 9% to 1.58m units, Fenabrave said.
