The sales of new cars, trucks and buses rose in Brazil in May, both over the previous month and the corresponding month last year.

Car, truck and bus sales reached 246,981, up 5.38% over April and 2.04% over May 2008, according to figures from the dealers’ association Fenabrave.
Over the first five months, however, sales were still down on the same period a year ago. Sales totalled 1.15 billion units, a 0.15% drop.
The news of growth in May will come as a relief to the Brazilian industry after April sales fell by 13.6% over March.
In in April, automakers association Anfavea, projected a 4% drop in full year sales to 2.71m light and heavy vehicles (2008: 2.84m) with production 11% lower at 2.86m units (versus 3.2m in 2008).
