Russian automaker GAZ is considering assembling its Gazel mid-sized trucks and vans in Brazil, Boris Alyoshin, director of Russia’s Federal Industry Agency, told Prime-Tass during a visit to the country.

GAZ is also considering setting up an engine production joint venture with Brazil’s Tritec Motors, which is owned by DaimlerChrysler and BMW, he said, adding that the next round of talks on the issue is slated for late April.


GAZ is part of Russia’s major automobile holding RusPromAuto. In 2004 GAZ output rose 8.4% year on year to 231,336 vehicles and assembly kits.
