Brazilian sales of cars and light trucks fell 4.5% in June from May, but the total for the first half of the year surpassed forecasts.

A source with access to preliminary official sales data told Reuters total sales in June reached around 286,900 vehicles, compared with 300,500 in the previous month. June had one less working day than May, which may have accounted for some of the dip. Compared with June 2010, sales were up 15.9%.
