Audi
has announced that it will increase Brazilian production of the A3 model to 1,200
units per month in the second half of the year. Currently, the São José
dos Pinhais plant (Paraná state) builds around 900 units of the A3 monthly.
The decision to increase A3 production reflects raised expectations for the Brazilian
car market in 2001.

Vehicle manufacturers have invested huge sums in Brazilian vehicle manufacturing
capacity in expectation of growing automotive demand in Brazil and its neighbouring
