BMW's Mini brand has added 'All4' four wheel drive to its recently launched Clubman and claimed a couple of firsts – the brand's first all-wheel drive model in the C-segment and the first all-paw model to be built at Oxford – the Countryman 4x4s are done under contract by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria.

The all-wheel drive system, previously only offered on Countryman models, has been redeveloped to ensure sportier handling and improved versatility for the Clubman.

Launch versions are Cooper S and SD.

The two-litre, I4 petrol engine with twinpower turbo technology develops 192hp and is combined with a standard six-speed manual transmission or optional eight-speed steptronic automatic. It achieves fuel consumption of up to 40.9 mpg with the manual transmission (44.8mpg automatic) and has CO2 emissions of 159g/km (146g/km).

The SD has a 190hp diesel engine with 400Nm of torque and comes with the eight speed auto as standard. Fuel consumption on the combined cycle is 58.9mpg with CO2 emissions of 126g/km.

The so called 'excitement package' is standard, which features a projection of the brand logo on to the ground beneath the driver's side door mirror when the car is opened and closed, as well as extended interior lighting.

Production has started with first deliveries scheduled for April.
