BMW’s Mini brand is enhancing connectivity and driver aids as part of a cockpit and instrument update effective from July 2017 production.

The instrument display will have with a new night design and a more precise fuel level display. Operation of driving modes and the optional head-up display will also be revised. In a brand first, the Clubman and just redesigned Countryman will offer optional Apple CarPlay while an alertness assistant will be introduced for the three and five-door hatchback and the convertible models.

Apple CarPlay

Countryman and Clubman buyers who choose the optional Media Pack XL or Tech Pack will also now get Apple CarPlay preparation included. This new functionality allows a range of new intelligent connectivity and infotainment options including wireless connection to compatible iPhone apps, including iMessage, Phone, Apple Music, Apple Maps and some third party apps. Apps are displayed and operated on the 8.8-inch high resolution central display, and controlled using either the touch controller or the touchscreen.

Cockpit instrument on the steering column of all models will offer improved clarity and an enhanced graphics display. At night, the numbers and letters will appear in white rather than orange. This new colour scheme will also apply to the head-up display. Individual height setting for the head-up display will now be stored in the personal profile on the vehicle key, as will the settings for the exterior mirrors and the electrically adjustable seats.

The new display on the right-hand section of the cockpit instrument features an enhanced and more precise display, making it easier to read fuel level details.

Operation of the driving modes will be modified in all current models. Changing from the standard setting to sport or green modes will now be facilitated by a toggle switch underneath the air conditioning controls. Head-up display controllers will be managed from a separate menu item in the operating system.

Alertness assistant

The alertness assistant will be included with the optional visual boost screen, navigation or navigation XL and continuously analyses how the vehicle is driven. If the distance covered or the driver’s behaviour indicates that the driver may be losing concentration, the system encourages the driver to take a break with a graphic displayed on the central display screen.
