AirConsole and the BMW Group have announced a deal which will bring casual gaming into new vehicles, starting in 2023.

AirConsole is a gaming platform with a large and diverse catalogue of games which run directly inside the vehicle entertainment system. The technology enables games to be delivered over the air and to control them using smartphones.

“This will make every waiting situation inside the vehicle, such as charging, an enjoyable moment,” said Stephan Durach, head of BMW group connected company development.

Setting up gaming in the car is claimed to be seamless. Players only need a smartphone, which serves as the game controller, and the cars’s curved display. The connection between the smartphone and the vehicle is established by scanning a QR code in the vehicle.

AirConsole got to work with the automaker via the BMW Startup Garage programme.
