Following a fifth consecutive year of record sales in 2015, BMW Group started 2016 with a record setting January, boosting sales 7.5% year on year to 152,879 cars.

BMW brand sales rose 7.5% to 133,883 worldwide with the redesigned 7 series seeing 26.3% growth compared with its predecessor.

Mini sales rose 8.6% to 18,867, a January record.

European sales of BMW and Mini rose 10.9% to 61,737. Several markets achieved double-digit growth including Italy (+16.2%/5,907), France (+18.8%/5,273) and Spain (+25.5%/4,417). The group’s two biggest markets in the region, Germany and the UK, also grew sales in January: 20,009 in Germany (+2.4%) and 9,453 in the UK (+2.3%).

Americas volume was affected by storms which disrupted large parts of the US, pushing sales down almost 3% to 26,667. US sales were 4% down but deliveries in Canada rose 9.8% to 2,280 and sales in Mexico rose 13% to 1,430.

Deliveries of BMW and MINI vehicles in Asia increased by 9.8% to 59,522 and Chinese sales rose 8.4% to 43,441.
