Automotive supplier Wabco claims to have made a significant innovation with a new range of high-performance compressors fitted to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

The company says the new compressors optimise the compressed air supply in air suspension systems to increase pressure performance and enable smoother running while reducing costs.

Equipped with Wabco compressors, the Mercedes-Benz ‘Airmatic’ system was introduced in 1998 in the S-Class series.

Wabco says that marked a breakthrough in the application of air suspension systems in passenger cars in Europe and that since then there has been a growing market adoption of such systems in luxury cars. For example, from 2000 to 2008, the global demand for air suspension systems for passenger cars has nearly tripled, Wabco says.
