This is the first time the Japanese brand’s six-month sales have exceeded the 500,000-unit mark in Europe. Its market share for the first half reached 5.1%, up from 4.7 % last year.
Sales of the Yaris (141,117 units) rose 9.1% in the January-June period, compared to last year. Corolla sales rose 9.5% to 103,976 units. Avensis sales of 83,911 units were up 71.7%. The new Corolla Verso set a monthly record with sales of 26,294 units in June. Sales of the hybrid Prius in the first half reached 3,444 units (+874%). Lexus sales for the first half increased 31.6% to 13,378 units.
For the first six months, Italy was Toyota’s largest national market in Europe, with 75,118 units sold (+4.8%), followed by the U.K. (74,179 units; +6%), Germany (63,183 units; +18.6%) and France (41,126 units; +12.6%). Toyota sales in Spain, the fifth biggest Toyota market in Europe, grew by 40.7% to 29,447 units.
