Toyota today announced it will increase the production capacity of its Yaris plant in Valenciennes, France, from a current maximum capacity of 240,000 units per year to a maximum capacity of 270,000 units, to respond to rising demand.

In line with the production capacity increase, and the production of the new generation Toyota Yaris at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF), Toyota will be investing approximately €110 million in the plant and hire an additional 1,000 employees.
Toyota has to date invested €787 million in its Valenciennes plant in the north of France, which has been making the Yaris model since January 2001. The plant also assembles diesel and petrol engines for the Yaris.
TMMF currently employs approximately 2,800 people.
Toyota’s European manufacturing operations currently count eight plants in six different countries (U.K., France, Poland, Turkey, Portugal and the Czech Republic).
For 2005, Toyota has set itself a production target of 635,000 vehicles, 472,000 engines and 386,000 transmissions. Toyota aims to sell 980,000 units in Europe in 2005.
