Toyota Motor Europe (TME) posted a 13% year on year sales increase in the second quarter with sales of 217,410 vehicles, including 205,235 Toyota and 12,175 Lexus vehicles.
During the first half of 2012, TME posted a 2% increase to 435,900 units, including 412,446 Toyota and 23,454 Lexus vehicles, as the automotive market in western Europe contracted by 8% slightly offset by 5% growth in central and eastern Europe.

Executive vice-president Karl Schlicht: “The positive sales performance this quarter is encouraging despite a continually declining European automotive market. All of our recent products, including the Yaris Hybrid, Prius+ and Toyota GT86 sports coupe, launched to enthusiastic reactions by our retailers and customers.”
European core models – Aygo, Yaris, Auris, Verso and Avensis, posted an 11% overall increase in the second quarter. Recently renewed models continued to perform well with sales of the Yaris up 39% and Avensis 13%.
Sales of the third generation Prius rose 8% to 6,203 units in the second quarter.
The Camry, built in Russia and sold only there, saw a 58% sales increase with 11,386 units in the second quarter. Sales of the RAV4 reached 15,928 units, up 2%. The Hilux truck saw a second quarter sales increase of 32% with 9,092 units.
Second quarter Lexus sales in Europe increased 4% following the successful launches of the new GS and RX. During the first half of 2012, sales increased 7% to 23,454 units. The CT 200h saw sales of 9,604 units in the first six months, up 27% from 2011.
