Toyota Motor Europe reported total sales of 808,311 vehicles in the European, Israel and central Asian markets it is responsible for in 2010, exceeding the target of 800,000 vehicles.
In Europe it booked sales of 781,157 vehicles including 750,746 Toyota vehicles and 30,411 Lexus vehicles representing a combined market share of 4.4% during the calendar year. In 2010, 480,271 vehicles were produced in local manufacturing facilities in Czech Republic, France, Portugal, Russia, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

“2010 continued to be a challenging year for the automotive industry, and for Toyota. However, we have seen consistently positive developments in the second half of the year where we exceeded our monthly sales targets every single month since June,” said TME chief Didier Leroy.
“Furthermore, customer orders have shown an encouraging upward trend in the last quarter of 2010, which we expect to continue into 2011.”
TME is launching a new Verso-S MPV and Lexus the CT 200h hybrid in the first quarter of 2011.
Toyota said it performed strongly in central and eastern Europe in 2010 where Toyota and Lexus vehicles achieved an increase in sales volume of 8% and 57% respectively. Sales also grew by a combined 9% in the Nordic markets (Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden). Toyota’s largest European market in 2010 was the United Kingdom with sales of 100,885 vehicles followed by Russia (89,262), Italy (79,311) and Germany (76,869).
European hybrid sales reached an all-time high of 70,529 vehicles, up 29% from 2009. Full hybrid vehicles accounted for 43% of Lexus sales in Europe in 2010.
The Toyota Auris Hybrid exceeded its 2010 sales target by 9% with sales of 15,237 units in Europe.
The Yaris – built in France – again led Toyota brand sales in Europe in 2010 with 164,154 vehicles. The Corolla was up 6% from 2009 at 51,189 units, RAV4 up 25% to 70,344 and Land Cruiser up 58% to 36,926.
Lexus brand volume was led by the RX SUV up 20% to 16,359.
