The Murano will be part of a premium-model range in Europe, said Nissan Europe general manager for product strategy and planning, Pierre Loing.
“We may sell around 5,000 units in a full year,” added sales vice president, Mario Canavesi.
Loing said the introduction of the Murano is part of Nissan’s preparation for the introduction of its premium Infiniti brand in Europe. Though no decision on the Infiniti introduction has been made, Loing said it will happen once the Nissan brand has been well established in Europe.
The Murano’s most promising markets in Europe are Germany, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. The Murano will serve as a flagship model for Nissan in Europe since the company has decided not to import either version (US or Asia-Pacific) of the newly-redesigned Maxima [presumably due to low sales of its predecessor in Europe and the UK].
In the first quarter of 2005, Nissan also will introduce the 350Z Convertible, Automotive News Europe added.
