Lower and claimed to be “sportier” and “edgier” than competitors, the 4755 mm long, 1655 mm tall Grandis will be the fifth new-generation Mitsubishi to be launched in Europe after the Outlander SUV, Lancer, Lancer Station Wagon, Lancer Evolution VIII, and will appear before the Dutch-built, Colt-replacing NCC.
Like those models, the Grandis will not be a direct replacement for a current offering – the Space Wagon – as its size, styling, performance and market positioning will be different.
European Grandis models will some with six or seven seats and the model line is built on a specific platform with four-wheel fully independent suspension.
Engines offered in Europe will include an all-new 2.4 DOHC petrol unit, fitted with Mitsubishi Motors “MIVEC” electronic variable valve timing system that makes its Continental debut in the Outlander this autumn, developing around 160 hp. A diesel engine, essential for Europe, is also planned.
The Grandis will be introduced to Europe at the Frankfurt motor show on September 9 and sales start during the first half of next year.
