Just as their parent company was settling three-plant strike action in the United States with the United Auto Workers union, seat Johnson Controls’ Belgian seat-making workers staged a strike on Friday that has temporarily shut down Volkswagen’s sole production plant in the country.

According to Reuters, Volkswagen said it stood to lose between one and two million euros per day as a result of the shutdown at the plant which normally makes about 1,000 Lupo and Golf models each day.


Local media said that the Johnson Controls workers were protesting a decision to close the Belgian plant, Reuters reported.


“We are in touch with Johnson Controls to find a solution (for the supply of car seats),” a Volkswagen spokeswoman told Reuters.
