Stellantis said this was a significant departure from current electrical energy conversion systems, paving the way for more efficient and cost-effective BEVs and energy storage systems.

With electronic conversion boards mounted as close as possible to the lithium-ion battery cells and using a sophisticated control system, the IBIS battery can produce alternating current directly for electric motors.

This boosts the range of BEVs, increases reliability, reduces costs, and frees up space within the vehicle.

The IBIS project is now building a fully functional prototype vehicle which will undergo testing on development benches, test tracks, and roads.
