Magna Steyr said it had now assembled 1,000,000 BMW and Mini vehicles under contract to the BMW Group in Graz, Austria, since 2003.

Models built were the BMW X3 – a line now assembled ‘in house’ in the US since 2010 – with contracts currently in place for the Mini Countryman and Paceman models.

“This milestone shows the comprehensive trust in our capability as a vehicle contract manufacturer and the commitment our employees have toward world class quality, ensuring that every vehicle completely satisfies the most exacting standards,” said Günther Apfalter, president of Magna Steyr and Magna International Europe.

Co-operation began in 2001 with preparations to build the first generation X3. As that run ended in 2010, work started on the Mini models.

Magna Steyr and BMW earlier this year signed a new contract for more models after the current Countryman and Paceman run ends.

The assembler has also built vehicles under contract to Aston Martin, Chrysler, Daimler and PSA – it was a major European source of Jeep and Chrysler branded models last decade.
