Magna International says former Opel CEO, Karl-Friedrich Stracke, will join its Magna Steyr division from 1 April.
Stracke dramatically stepped down as CEO of Opel in July last year to be replaced by Steve Girsky as acting head of GM’s European operations, with Volkswagen China boss, Karl-Thomas Neumann subsequently taking charge in January this year.

“Magna Steyr… confirms starting on 1 April, Karl-Friedrich Stracke will join Magna Steyr as President Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik (MSF),” said a statement emailed to just-auto by the supplier in Austria.
“In this role, he will be responsible for contract manufacturing in Graz and world-wide engineering, reporting to Günther Apfalter, President of Magna Steyr. We are confident Magna Steyr will benefit from his extensive experience in complete vehicle engineering and manufacturing. No further details will be disclosed at this time.”
Magna recently posted 2012 full-year sales of US$30.84bn, an increase of 7%, reflecting increases in North American, European, and rest of world production sales as well as higher tooling and engineering sales, partially offset by lower complete vehicle assembly sales.
Vehicle production increased 18% to 15.5m units in North America and decreased 7% to 12.7m units in Western Europe, compared to 2011.
