The report says that Audi sold 16,100 cars in China during the year’s first half, compared with 126,270 units in Germany.

“We hope to provide all of our products to Chinese customers through our sales networks in China by 2011,” Schmitt said in an interview with Business Weekly last week.

“I cannot reveal the new product launches in China now, but we will act according to the market’s latest developments,” Schmitt said when asked what new model the company will make in China after its Audi A6 model.

Audi produces the Audi A6 at FAW Volkswagen in Shenyang, a joint venture with China’s First Auto Works (FAW). The model is the most luxurious foreign sedan made in China.

When asked about future Japanese competition in China, Schmitt reportedly said: “We have no other real competitors in China as well as worldwide except BMW and Mercedes-Benz”.

BMW will begin producing its 3-and 5-series ranges in China during the second half of next year in co-operation with China Brilliance.
