Vehicle production at Toyota Australia’s Altona (Victoria state) manufacturing plant will return to normal levels during the week commencing 6 June 2011, the automaker said on Wednesday (11 May 2011).

Production at the Camry, Camy hybrid and Aurion (the V6 version) had been reduced to 50% of pre-earthquake levels since 9 May to manage available parts supply following the Japan earthquake and tsunami.

Toyota Australia president and CEO Max Yasuda said the company had confirmed it had sufficient parts to support a return to full vehicle production.

“Toyota Australia and our suppliers have worked closely with Toyota Motor Corporation to secure the parts needed to resume normal vehicle production levels in early June,” Yasuda said.

“This has involved studying and confirming the supply of critical parts from the earthquake affected areas and identifying interim alternate suppliers.”

Altona would increase production to about 9,000 vehicles a month from June.

He praised the efforts of the “Toyota Australia family” which had helped the company resume full production earlier than anticipated.

“The past two months have been challenging for employees, dealers and suppliers, but their flexibility and support has been critical in helping the company get back on its feet quickly,” Yasuda added.
