Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan has appointed Toyota Australia executive chairman John Conomos to a position of managing officer at the company’s general shareholders meeting in June.
Conomos is the first Australian and one of only five non-Japanese executives to be appointed to a role at this senior level within TMC. His new responsibilities “will reflect the evolving needs of Toyota’s expanding global operations”, Toyota Australia said in a statement.
Executives appointed to these roles understand Toyota’s philosophy well and have made significant contributions to the establishment of business in their respective countries, TMC said.
Toyota Australia president and CEO Ted Okada remains in charge of manufacturing, export and marketing operations in Australia.
The TMC statement said its structure includes a board of directors and a senior management group of managing officers. Following confirmation of appointments at the annual shareholder meeting, TMC will have 27 directors and 44 managing officers.
