Ford Australia’s restyled Falcon has been caught on test wearing only light disguise – by a professional cameraman, using broadcast quality equipment, who spotted the car on a country road.

The resulting tape has been gleefully broadcast on the website www.drive.com.au ahead of Tuesday’s official release by Ford of pictures of the new car, two months ahead of its September launch.
Ford Australia told the website the picture release would let it test cars in the real world on public roads without disguise but, in fact, the company has been quietly drip-feeding information to the public for months and there is even a ‘new Falcon’ section on its website which reveals some details of the revised interior and all-new independent rear suspension.
Ford has had a hard time with its current Falcon, introduced several years ago. Controversial curvy styling and an obsolete live rear axle have counted against it in the battle with arch-rival Holden, whose independently sprung and more conventionally styled Commodore – distantly related to the European Opel Omega – has been winning the sales race by huge margins.
Ford Australia chief Geoff Polites is on record as saying that he will quit if the new Falcon is not a success.
