The Australian importer of Geely MK cars, which are sold only in Western Australia due to the absence of stability control mandatory on other states, is conducting a voluntarily recall after asbestos was found in engine gaskets.
The news came months after asbestos was found in nearly 25,000 units made by Great Wall Motors and Chery, The Motor Report said.

Geely owners will be contacted by mail and invited to have the affected parts replaced in a process said to take around 90 minutes.
Affected Great Wall and Chery models however will keep the components with the appropriate government authority approving the application of a warning sticker and the assurance of replacement if necessary.
These same steps have been approved for the Geely MK.
Local health and safety officials assessed the MK and described the risk of asbestos exposure to occupants as “negligible.”
