The high-speed servicing, called Express Maintenance, is being introduced globally by Toyota and Australia was chosen to pilot the scheme.

It’s while-you-wait servicing, but must be arranged in advance.

Owners receive complimentary tea, coffee and newspapers in a waiting lounge and can watch their vehicles being serviced via closed-circuit TV monitors.

The Victorian dealership is the second in Australia to commit to the system after an outlet in Wollongong, New South Wales.

Every major Toyota service centre in the country will offer Express Maintenance by 2007 after all technicians have been trained to new international standards.

Toyota Australia business development manager Tim Easey said the secret is a “revolutionary” service trolley that contains all the essential tools for a service.

“A team of two technicians work on each car and the new trolleys mean they never need to leave the service bay, which saves a lot of time,” he said.

“We complete most regular interval services within one hour, even when there is extra work such as replacing brake pads, wiper inserts or bulbs.”

Since introducing the service two months ago, the Melbourne dealer has reported a 15% increase in bookings.
